Today’s post is a little off-topic.
Frankly because I’m feeling a little distracted with all the craziness going on in our world, and I just felt the need to say something.
I don’t know about you but I’m so tired of waking up and hearing about more innocent people being killed. I do my best to be a good person and give back. My goal is to make this world better. Perhaps that’s why it’s so disheartening when I hear about people whose primary goal seems to be the exact opposite.
From intolerance to terrorism.
From people who criticize and abuse those simply because they’re different or have beliefs or lifestyles they don’t understand or agree with, to those who’ve decided it’s OK to hurt and kill others, what’s happening in our world is insane.
The presidential race in the United States is an absolute circus. Angry citizens are killing cops. Students are killing other students. Terrorists are murdering innocent people around the globe. Drugs are taking away too many lives. The celebrity circus is getting way out of hand, with Jennifer Aniston now firing off at the media for it’s constant criticism of women. Piers Morgan firing back saying she’s part of the problem with all her airbrushed magazine covers. And, people chastising Victoria Beckham via social media for kissing her five-year-old daughter on the lips. And that’s just this week!
Really people? Is this what we want our world to be all about?!
It makes me feel it’s more important than ever to find the meaning we’re all searching for. To stop living empty or unsatisfying lives, or waiting for retirement to finally live and be happy. To instead go out and be courageous and change whatever we need to change in our lives today, so we can be happy and fulfilled instead of waiting for someday. Sadly, for too many people, someday never arrives.
Turning a negative into a positive.
We can’t ignore what’s going on our world but we don’t have to let it take us out. (If it sounds a bit like I’m trying to convince or remind myself here, I am!) As with anything that happens in life, the only thing we have control over is what we do with it and how we react. We can become disillusioned or we can try to find the positive, or at least use it to create something positive.
Let’s try to focus on being kinder to ourselves and others.
Let’s do what we can to give back and serve. Whether it’s through work or volunteerism we all have the ability to make the world a better place even through small actions in our day-to-day lives. We all have the power to adopt a positive attitude instead of a critical one. It’s easy to get sucked into the negative. I say we all work hard to avoid letting that happen.
Let’s focus on being proactive.
Let’s do our best to create lives that have meaning. Let’s make the most of each day we have, and try to do something meaningful for ourselves and others. Let’s aim to make a positive difference. It doesn’t have to be something big. Even if we can each make a positive difference for one person each day, it will have a ripple effect. It may not stop the violence, the criticism or the greed, but it can improve our little circle in this great big world. And maybe someday all those circles will unite.
I’m not particularly political or religious (and I don’t want this post to become about those things; that’s not my point), but I do encourage us all to pray for peace and healing… whether you choose to pray to your God or just send out some positive vibes into the Universe.
