I’ve been blogging since 2006.
While I’ve created and written a number of blogs, on topics ranging from business development and marketing to finding meaning at midlife, the one common thread through all the years and all the blogs, is they mirrored what was going on in my life at the time. I began blogging to support and grow my marketing business, but soon realized I enjoyed sharing my thoughts on a wide variety of topics. I like sharing the behind the scenes stuff, the mental challenges, and the personal growth that goes hand-in-hand with starting and running a business. For years that’s been part of my “get real” approach, in a conscious effort to show the realities of entrepreneurial life instead of just the glossy magazine cover version.
I’ve also noticed when I blog about things happening in my life, challenges I’m facing personally or professionally, and topics outside the realm of marketing, I get the biggest response. More comments. More feedback. People chiming in saying they get it… that they’re going through the same thing.
So, when I made the decision to move away from my marketing business and step into a new chapter in my life, I knew I would keep on blogging. The question was, what to call my blog. As a marketing and branding professional, I understand the importance of packaging. Yes, I could simply blog under my own name. However, due to years of owning an online marketing business, my name is now synonymous with marketing, branding, and The Business Stylist®—my online business brand for the last seven years. I needed a way to begin to differentiate my personal brand away from marketing into something more representative of where I’m heading.
Returning to Following Inspiration
I had a blog called Following Inspiration when I first started down the path of living inspired. While I didn’t talk about it much in my business, I’ve actually been running my life and my business by following inspired ideas for going on about 10 years now. So it’s not as if I’m going back to Following Inspiration per se, it’s really that I never left it. And now, I’m simply returning to that brand for my blog. So, as I transition from a 32-year marketing career, to a new chapter, I will be sharing the journey as it unfolds and writing openly about the challenges and gifts that accompany change and following an inspired path.
I hope you’ll choose to join me on this journey.
Perhaps reading about my observations and aha’s will inspire you to pursue the life you’ve been dreaming of.
